Thesis Abandoned

Stupid thesis has officially been abandoned. (Hopefully) better thesis now begun using the class systems as the main reason for bad politics. (Not with that wording, obviously.) Also! Literature circle stuff has been in my binder forever! Hopefully it is still worth something?!
Still tired and confused, but with some sense of direction, so i guess that's good?
That is all.

Paragraph 3

The segregation of the classes deepens when shortages of food and goods threaten the lower classes. This would obviously create negative feelings towards the Chiléan government for letting this happen to its country's citizens. "Meanwhile, Blanca had organized a network for obtaining provisions through the black market and her contacts in the working-class neighborhood where she went to teach ceramics to the women. She had to work and worry for every bar of soap or bag of bag of sugar she could find." (p. 350)

*i realize this isn't long enough nor is it fully supported.
**Next paragraph: Allende creates parallels to her own life when the president of the socialist party gets shot, just as her own father, Salvatore Allende, had gotten shot when he was president of Chilé. ...other political/military points: Rosa's death, the coup... etc?
***New thesis statement? Allende has a negative view of Chilé's political system and expresses this view through several aspects of The House of the Spirits. ??? i don't know...any ideas?

Confusion

i appreciate everyone's feedback- it is very helpful. Problem is: now i don't even know what i'm trying to say and i feel like i'm just talking in circles (how is that different from any other day? :P) Ah, no sense of direction..running out of time...
My brain hurts.
That is all.
ps. Brutal badminton practice tonight, so if i'm complaining about my butt hurting tomorrow, that's why. And yes, i felt everyone had the need to know that. haha

Paragraph 2

Perhaps the most prominent aspect represented in the novel is society. There is a very obvious line drawn between each of the classes. They generally seem to share the same political views: upper class are conservative, middle class are liberal, and lower class are socialist and communist. The lower class eventually becomes tired of being supressed and fights back in the form of rebellions. "Miguel talked about revolution. He said that the violence of the system needed to be answered with the violence of revolution." (319) Rape is a recurring and rather violent theme that shows the inequality among the sexes. An example of this injustice is "Esteban did not remove his clothes. He attacked her savagely, thrusting himself into her without preamble, with unnecessary brutality. He realized too late, from the blood spattered on her dress, that the young girl was a virgin, but neither Pancha's humble origin nor the pressing demands of his desire allowed him to reconsider." (57) These things contribute to the Chiléan society's discontentment and hence to its instability.

[Someone remind me how to format quotes? How many words for single/double-spacing and where do we cite the page number? And are we supposed to put the author's last name too? i.e. (Allende, 57)]

Paragraph 1

Isabel Allende blames Chilé's political problem's on the country's instability. She brings this across through several aspects of the novel. Socially, there is diversity among the classes and political views, as well as rebellions which express the discontentment of the society, and rape which shows the inequality among the sexes. All of these contribute to Chilé's instability. Economically, food shortages increase segregation among the classes. There are also several political and military aspects that contribute to Chilé's instability.
